New Orleans Holiday Tradition

Learn more about the history of Reveillon

In the 1800s, the Creoles celebrated the start of Christmas with a big family meal when they returned home from mass. Thus was born "Reveillon" – meaning "awakening" in French. By the 1940s, the tradition had been fading out over succeeding generations, but it was revived in the 1990s with modifications reflecting the times and becoming increasingly popular ever since.

Today, dozens of New Orleans' restaurants offer Reveillon Dinners with menus inspired by those enjoyed by the Creole families who began the tradition. Fulton St. Bistro | Bar, located at the Omni Riverfront Hotel, has put together a grand Reveillon menu with their own little twist.
